"Groundworks" is a thought-provoking documentary that delves into the rich culture of Californian Native Americans, with a focus on the central role of smoke in their rituals and practices. The film's opening title sequence, designed to evoke the imagery of smoke, sets the stage for an immersive and visually striking exploration of this captivating subject matter. Hojoon, the designer behind the map animations, lower third titles, and closing credits, adds an additional layer of artistry to the film. The typography used throughout the documentary was carefully selected to complement the aesthetic of traditional Native American art, further immersing the viewer in the culture being portrayed.

Map Animations

The map animation in the film was intentionally designed to not display modern borders. Instead, the areas were intentionally left without clear lines, reflecting the Native people's concept of borders and their holistic view of the world
